Summer is here!
This is the season for new opportunities, exciting adventures, time to finally relax and get to work on those fun projects that we’ve all pushed to the back burner for the last several months. This is the time where you can pull out those new paint brushes or create that short film series that you’ve been so excited about. If you’re in the same boat as many people you may find it difficult to remember how to jumpstart your creativity. Instead of locking yourself in a room all day to find the next best thing, try some of these tips to help you get your creative juices flowing again:
1.Go for a walk outside
Walking in nature changes the brain and soothes the mind. According to recent studies, nature helps us recharge and redirect our thinking while developing new ideas. Try taking 10-15 minutes out of your day to walking around a public park or green space in your neighbourhood–appreciate the trees, admire the flowers. You would be surprised to find how satisfying it may be to watch a colony of ants carry food into their home with such uniformity.
2. Practice daydreaming
One of the great things about creative thinking is that it doesn’t require much training or education. We were all born with high bursts of imagination and innovation–now it’s time to get back to that way of thinking and revel in our new ideas. Allow yourself to daydream for a few moments and let one thought lead to another. You’d be surprised at how many ideas you can come up with after an hour of uncapped, unrestricted imagination. While you may not come up with your million dollar idea right away, intentional daydreaming can definitely lead you in the right direction. Remember to stay positive and the results will come.
3.Watch a movie
Have you ever watched a new movie and left the theatre astonished and mindblown? Try doing this to unleash inspiration for your own projects. Head over to your favorite theatre or media streaming service and choose a movie that you wouldn’t typically be interested in watching. Here’s the twist: think about some ideas of what you may have done differently. Don’t stop there, you can do this with books, clothes, websites, anything! This is one of the best strategies for coming up with original content with a unique twist.
4.Bounce ideas around with friends
We all think and perceive things differently. In the digital age, it’s so easy to meet new people that may have a fresh take on a problem that you’ve been trying to solve for weeks.
